GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS
PLEASE NOTE: TEACHERS ARE RESPONSIBLE TO MAKE ALL PARTICIPANTS, PARENTS & GUARDIANS AWARE OF THE FESTIVAL RULES AND REGULATIONS. EVERYONE MUST ABIDE BY THESE RULES.
MANAGEMENT
1. a) These events are under the management of the Festival Committee of the Nipissing and North Bay Kiwanis Clubs, hereinafter called “The Committee.”
b) The Committee reserves the right to alter, amend and interpret any rule for the good of the Festival.
c) Participants must follow all rules outlined in the syllabi.
d) Matters which are not covered within these rules, as well as any complaints or protests, are to be referred, in writing, to the Festival Coordinator or The Committee.
e) The decisions of The Committee and/or the Festival Coordinator are final and binding.
2. At no time may a teacher, parent or competitor engage the adjudicator in conversation prior to, during or after any performance.
DOING SO MAY RESULT IN THE COMPETITOR’S DISQUALIFICATION.
THE ADJUDICATOR’S DECISION IN ALL MATTERS OF ADJUDICATION IS FINAL AND BINDING.
3. The Committee is not responsible for the loss of, or damage to, articles or persons in any of the buildings used for performance during the Festival.
4. The Committee reserves the right to record, broadcast or televise any or all selections presented at the Festival, without liability, and without remuneration to the performer. Upon entering the festival, payment provides consent without restrictions, for the name and/or photograph and details of achievement of each participant to be displayed and/or published for recognition and affirmation purposes.
5. Cameras, tape recorders, video recorders or other recording devices will NOT be allowed in any of the venues during performances. Video taping of the adjudicator’s comments is NOT allowed at any time.
6. a) “NEW” - Sessions are open to the public at NO CHARGE.
b) A free program will be given to the teachers who have ten (10) or more entries in the festival.
7. a) The Committee respects the right of all participants and adjudicators by providing a performance setting void of distractions and interruptions. Persons not showing courtesy and respect to the participant/adjudicator will be removed from the performance venue and discipline action may be taken by The Committee.
b) Cellular telephones, cameras, pagers, beepers, etc. must be turned off in the venue during the performances and adjudications.
8. The Committee will determine the amount and allocation of prizes based on the amount donated by the community and the proportion of entries in a given category.
9. Adjudicators will be governed by the Festival Trophies and Awards Guidelines, and guidelines outlined in the Special Awards Applications. Some of the awards are not restricted to class winners.
10. The Festival Coordinator will contact each prize winner regarding his/her award(s).
DEFINITIONS
11. For the purposes of these events, an “amateur” is any person whose principal livelihood is not obtained from the performance of music in the specific category in which he or she is participating. This does not, however, preclude such a person from occasionally receiving remuneration for musical services rendered, even in the area in which he or she is entering.
12. All performances and competitions, unless otherwise stated, will be open to amateurs only. However, a music student who has reached a higher level of performance and who teaches may participate in the Kiwanis Festival.
13. All performances and competitions, unless otherwise stated, will be open to any performer without regard to residence or domicile.
14. Bona Fide Members are participants who regularly rehearse and perform with a group.
AWARDS, TROPHIES & SCHOLARSHIPS
15. Trophies, awards and scholarships will be presented by the Festival Committee at scheduled events through the festival. Timing to be finalized along with the Final Program.
